Hobie 16 mast float confusion

Hi all, bear with me here because sailing is a relatively new thing to me but I have an old hobie 16 that I got a mast float for (a hobie baby bob). First of all on the tip of the mast, there is a round part with a pully inside witch the cable for my main sheet rides on. How am I supposed to mount this mast float with that there? Anyone got suggestions, pics, or any insight i would be really appreciated! thanks all

You will have to tap the pulley and put screws in the mounting bracket.

I just put a baby bob on an old H16 yesterday.

The bob has two stainless sleeves each with 4 holes but I only used the two holes on each sleeve nearest the plastic bob for a total of four screws. Note that the kit only comes with four screws.

The four holes near the plastic portion of the bob also have the least risk of drilling into the sheave as the holes are all close to the outer edge of the sleeve housing. I pretty much just clamped the bob in place and then drilled the holes using the bob as the drilling hole guide. I think the directions have some templates - which of course I didnt use.

I used a little cutting oil to do the thread tap but maybe not necessary. Since I used cutting oil, I cleaned up the hole with acetone and a cotton swab and then used loctite "red" on the four screws to make sure they dont work loose.

Maybe not correct.. but that is what I did and its overall fairly easy.

How does one drill and tap the mast head without damaging the sheave? Most taps are tapered and don't even start cutting until they are all the way through the hole (and into the sheave).

there are two kinds of taps, starting taps and bottoming taps. Use the bottoming taps that don't have the tapper on them

I put a baby bob on my H16 today. the instructions were clear and correct. You drill out the front pulley rivet and drill all the way through the housing. You use the 2 bolts and filler washers not the screws. You drill a hole per diagram thru bob mount and thru housing (the location falls between the two pulleys) and put the second bolt there. It was a 10 minute job.
I found I have a lot of water in mast to deal with. Oh well!
