A couple of weeks ago, I took my buddy out on my WAVE. On the beach, as I was pulling the sail out of it's bag, he somehow managed to yank on the haylard...and, yes, you know it, whrrrr went the line, pulling the haylard hook up, out of reach.
I was not in the mood to drop the mast to reach the haylard hook, so looked around for something useful.
The tiller crossbar was laying in the tramp, as I had not connected it to the rudders, yet, and son-of-a-gun:
HOT TIP: The tiller crossbar works well as a grappling arm to reach your run-a-way haylard hook.
Good idea. I would never had thought the Another option to prevent this alltogether, is to tie the loose end of the halyard back to the thimble of the cable portion of the halyard. Like a flag halyard. Makes it a little bulkier, but for me, worth it.
