Last year I had a conversation with an erstwile friend about the Hobie thing growing again. He said 'I won't be impressed until there's a hundred boats on the beach'. He meant well by the comment, and I told him it will happen and I hoped he'd be there to see it. Well, I left him a voice mail last night - 'Milo, this is Gordo. It happened, AND YOU WEREN'T THERE! Dana Pt. 40th, not 99, not 101, but 100 boats on the beach and out racing! Have a nice day'. I'm waiting for the return call.

That was one fun regatta
As for the Hobie 18 fleet wow cant believe you can have boats so close together after a full race finished were within the minute of each other two races seen under ten seconds between 1st and 3rd places now that is some quality racing :D
Thank you to all involved that was simply awsome especially going out through the swell...

Media was all over the event, get your panties un-wedged and relax there will be plenty of interviews in the sailing rags and such.. Just because it did not make the nightly news.. well you get the picture CHILLAX!

There was a writer and a photographer for "Sailing" magazine (the large format one) there. Should be an article out in a couple months.

Amazing event! We saw numerous former Hobie sailors whom we hadn't seen in 10 or even 20 years. The 16A class, with 51 boats, was essentially a 2-day nationals.

Yea, Jordon and I talked to Betsy, the freelancer from Sailing Magazine. Nice lady from I think Santa Barbara. She had a big guy photographer with her that was a really nice kid too. They were in line with us for food. You guys saw the million people there, so you know how long the line took. Awesome BBQ.
BTW: I did NOT see anyone get massive air. I DID see some sweet sealion tricks out at the green bouy by A mark.

I came into A mark on port a couple of times and tacked near that green buoy serving as a sun deck for about a dozen sea lions.

I barked at them, but they were too busy catching rays / avoiding the sharks to care. People must have thought I was nuts.

You do get a little nutsy by yourself on a 17.

There's a pic of it burned in my mind. Not quite like the Sunkist ad, but pretty good.
