Water Shoes

There was a post recently concerning kayaking shoes which included a comparison of different types that prompted me to replace the old water socks that I had been using for over a year. I purchased a pair of Solomon Sport Amphibian shoes which are great. The soles are much harder than the water sock's and I no longer get foot cramps after peddling for an hour. Best of all they are "size adjustable". My left foot is almost a full size larger than my right (my wife says it's a birth defect but I think it's a sign of great intelligence -the jury is still out.) These shoes have an adjustable heel that you can loosen or tighten to get a perfect fit. I like them so much I have worn them to the grocery, Lowes, and out to lunch (much to my wife's chagrin.)

I have been paddling in a pair of Keen Taos shoes for 2 years. Although I do not yet have a AI (Spring 09) I paddle a kayak several times a week for those years. These are great water shoes. walk in oyster beds or paddle all day..... Give them a look. Anyone with any experience on this brand.

I also wear a pair of Keen, the Newport H2 Hiking Sandal. As with any open sandal you can get some loose sand or pebbles inside but easily shaken out. They are very comfortable and on a 5 hour 7.5 mile pedal they were as comfortable as when first put on. I am sure their closed shoes are as comfortable. A great product and very durable.

I use Chota Flats booties in the summer and Chota Mucluks (calf high) in the winter. I like booties with a harder bottom.

Salomon Techamphibians are great in and out of the water. Especially when you buy them at 50% off at the outfitters!!!
