Which is less affected by wind
Revo or Sport?

I can no longer get my 57 lb kayak on top of the car

Building a trailer, yet still need lighter weight

Where is a Mirage Classic with Tankwell? (My old vision of the ideal kayak, [edit added: rudder control on the right side]8 lbs lighter than Revo, except 2" too wide, (Revo is thinner, Classic was about capacity of the Sport 250 lbs ... could be better, never made one yet though) :(

I'm 6'0 31.5" inseam, 180 lbs. arthritic shoulder, and getting elderly fast lol

need a 280-295 lb capacity, 28-29" wide 40-48 lb Mirage Kayak with tankwell

I beieve it is the Revo. My wife has one and loves it. But in these matters Road Runner is the definitive source

I tried a freind's Adventure out today about 4 miles 20-35 mph winds.... gusts higher ... several scary events occurred today on the water, including I had to cut my anchor line, which somehow tangled with my legs and leashes and wind was atrociously trying to push kayak over when anchor got stuck in rocks below, and not having a cleat, I had used a ram mount as a cleat... then, on a right turn, i felt/heard a click ... rudder control handle turned all the way pointing towards me and wouldn't turn back, so I paddled and peddled at the same time with rudder up ... honestly wouldn't have made it back at all without a Hobie Mirage drive ...

I have no left hand, so that left arm is shorter, I wish rudder control was on the right, instead of left, I had to control rudder by reaching under leg with right hand sometimes

RPB, wind isn't much of an issue on the water for any of the Mirage Drive Hobies. Whereas the Revo is less affected by wind and chop, the shorter Sport weighs 10# less, loads easier and can be better handled one handed. I don't understand why you have a width requirement, but the Sport is 1" wider than the Revo and 1/2" narrower than the Classic if this is critical.

Have a look at the glue-on rudder control unit on the Hobie inflatables -- looks like it can be mounted on any surface. You'd have to ask your dealer if it's available as a separate part. You can mount it on the right side wherever you like -- if there is no direct mounting space, you can bolt a flat (or custom bent) plate on the right side of your boat to provide a horizontal mounting surface and attach the rudder control accordingly. Maybe over the starboard cup holder? Check it out! 8)

Thanks,
Guess I should have said broadside wind.
I was wondering about broadside wind mainly because I was used to a slow 30" flatter bottomed super stable, you can stand without outriggers barge of a kayak and the Adventure felt tippy with the broadside wind while anchored when the anchor caught and went under me in 20-30 mph broadside winds (I'm used to a trolley, but no trolly on the one I tried, no cleat either, I looped anchor rode over a Ram mount base)

As far as width, just figuring stability vs speed, I guess that isn't a big deal now that I tried a mirage drive yesterday.

i didn't turtle, even with gusts of about 35 mph broadside, so, I guess that isn't so much of an issue.

I decided to build a trailer this week, allowing for the weight of Revo or Outback ... I can't cartop those one-handed, that's why I rarely use my current 57 lb Kayak unless a freind loads it cartop for me. I have been leaning towards Sport (due to balance [carrying handle balanced] and weight) or Revo (after trailer built) after yesterday thought about Outback too (after trailer built) I can lift with my legs, my cartopping days are over though due to shoulder arthritis due to using the right arm twice as much as left one all my life (I'm 54, figure right side doubled use = 108 years of use)

I'm going to try out Sport Revo and Outback, and get either st or turbo fins ... Adventure is too much for me to handle loading unloading even off a trailer with 1 hand.

Slower cadence is what I need, doesn't matter to me how hard it is to push, I have strong legs, just smoked too many years to run fast ...

Thanks for the tips on the right hand control ... I'll check that out !
I seriously thought about older models, in my area it's very rare anyone sells one unless the owner dies, I think I saw about 3 in all of Texas on Craigslist and forums from people selling theirs to upgrade to 2009 models....though the older mirage mount wasn't a problem for me yesterday using my toes to turn the retaining things, I want the the newer 2009 up/down method the Sport has and click n go and reinforced drive well and 2009 hull improvements. Classic would be perfect, If I can figure out where to store a crate.(My old vision of the ideal kayak, Classic with tankwell ... 8 lbs lighter than Revo, rudder control on right side ... just needs a tankwell .... wish they made one....
I'm 180 lbs, 6' tall 32" inseam, but gained 10 pounds this last year. and usually carry everything in the garage in the tankwell (I need to thin out what I carry and never use lol, just was used to the 450 lb capacity of my 13'4" barge kayak.)
