Here in the Great White North we are still a few months away until the Big Thaw. Googling the 'net for Wave photos helps ease the pain.

One website I found contained 9 pages (75 photos) of some impressive racing photos including some cool Wave hull flying shots. Some would make great desktop backgrounds.

Are these guys hamming it up for the camera? or is there something strategic about laying prone on the tramp downwind and steering with your feet?

Curious minds need to know.

Steering with your feet is the only way to get forward on a Wave which is fastest.

Thanks, hobieokc. That would make complete sense, and would explain the comment at the bottom of photo #17:

"This sequence is a neck to neck dash for the finish line. You can tell these guys take their sailing very seriously."

I don't know, all the kids at the Youth Wave Regatta we have in Des Moines take the main sheet and tie it to the corner of the steering assembly and steer with the rope and get pretty much up in front of the mast. More than one way to skin a cat..

Good pictures... although I am surprised at some of the pictures showing athletic guys with cigarettes hanging from their mouth. LOL.

I sit facing aft and steer with my feet sometimes in lighter wind.

It gets my weight forward, evens out the draft and the boat will go significantly faster.

I mentioned it in an earlier post.

im so glad i have year round sailing... sorry
but dont be jealous. The wind averages under 10mph. we only get so many great wind days. And im usually WORKING or at SCHOOl when they happen! :evil: :evil: :evil:

BTW...


About steering with your feet. If its really that big of a deal why dont you just install a small tiller to your tiller cross bar that you use when you need to get forward on the boat.

You could make it with the tiller in the middle of the tiller crossbar and have 2 clips on each side of the tiller crossbar. When your not using it just hook the tiller into one of the clips so its out of the way. When you need to use it unclip it and go forward.


Im sure using your feet works but you look like a goon doing it....
