Hi folks,

We're new (about to be) Outfitter owners. The Kayak is on hold at the dealer as we wait for a Yakima roof rack system to arrive. We tried both the Outfitter and Oasis and settled on the former. We're longtime tandem bicyclists so the Mirage is a natural for us. But it's taken a long time to find a dealer with them in stock. We live in the Rocky Mountain region. Once we found one along the lower Colorado River and took demo cruises we were sold.

So now we'll be tandem riders and cruisers!

The red Outfitter has arrived and we've spent our first day aboard on the lower Colorado River. We pedaled (I want to say cruised) upstream about a mile and a third then eased back down. Later in the day we took our small dog along. Worked out fine.

We ended up buying the Hobie high back PFDs and returned a pair of conventional ones we didn't care for.

The standard plug-in cart was the best accessory we got. It's no problem pulling the Hobie down to the water and launching it.

To travel with the Hobie Tandem Bicyclist and I mounted a Yakima rack on the pickup topper. To load it, we got a pair of strong steel rods that partially insert into the Yakima cross bars sticking out a couple of feet from the side of the pickup. I can lift or lower one end at a time to/from the rods the move the Hobie on or off the rack from the rods.

No questions yet, but I'm sure there will be shortly.

Welcome to the forum AP and congratulations on your new Outfitter. The biggest difference between that and a tandem bike is where the skipper sits!

No doubt, you'll have many great kayaking adventures ahead. Good choice! 8)
