jib, hobie wave

Question: attaching the jib sail to the adjustment line.
First is there a new system similar to the getaway? pullies attached to the jib sail then back to the front cross bar?
I have broken two hooks last summer and am in need of something that will not pull apart. I was using stainless steel hooks from a hardware store. the kind that has a spring loaded clip that holds the gromette (sp) from not slipping out. the clip keeps breaking.

For quick rigging there is nothing like a snap hook, but failure is a problem if the hardware gets smacked against the mast when sailing. I would just rig as original. Tie the line to the clew and run to the cleats each time you set up. Might take a couple of extra moments, but no failure or hang up issues. You can also revert to a shackle which is the way most other Hobie Jib sheets attach. You have to be sure to tension each time, so this requires a tool of some kind.

has anyone tried those small, "key chain like" screw type carabiners for this?
Mine seems to be working fine for one summer, but I am wondering about durability in the long haul?

those carribeaners are pretty crappy. I use those things for my car keys. put my car keys on them and attach them to my belt loop. Saves room in the pockets for all my pencils and candy and trash and cell phone ....

But those things are not for anything like what you want to do. Mine break all the time. If you drop them enough times they will break. Check the side. they all say "Not intended for climbing"

Maybe I didn't make myself clear. Yes, they are meant for car keys.
But, I've already used a screw type mini carabiner for a whole summer in some pretty gusty Great Plains winds. The mini carabiner (not for climbing) has come through in winds where snap hooks have broken or twisted out of shape.

Just wondering if anyone has experience with using one for longer than one season.

ok well all im saying is those things usually dont even last one year before they break on me
and that was just holding keys not being put under load




Although i do have to say do go with the carribeaner because the metal has never snapped. All that breaks when they do break is the metal hinge where you open and close it.
You'd be putting all the load on the metal hook part of it right. If so. Its probably strong enough. That part is pretty sturdy. ive hung from something on that metal hook and it supported me well

just a note on the carribeaner idea. While tightening the tramp I used the carribeaner that I planned on using for the jib. Long story short I simily pulled it apart with out too much effort. Think I will be using Millers idea of no hook at all.
