I am planning on entering my Getaway in the kick-off regatta April 25/26 in Santa Cruz, CA.

Who is with me ? Having few boats from the SF Bay Area would be fun.

Note: my personal goal is family racing, sailing with my kids for fun. So don't let the racing aspect of the event stop you.

For those interested, we will be hosting a beginning race clinic before the regatta. If you're interested in attending, email me for details.

The Santa Cruz Kick-Off regatta was a blast!
25+ knots the first day.... big winds, big waves.... Lots of hobies capsized, lots of broken stuff...
Second day was nicer, still blowing fast. Unfortunately, the pin in the forestay adjuster popped, and our mast fell down, cutting short our racing day.
The Getaway was not totally ridiculous. Fast and safe in this wind. The crew was the limiting factor, still learning how to tack in those wild conditions.
Overall, that was very exciting. A regatta is a great way to learn sailing, and I'm looking forward for the next one.
I hope more Getaway will show up.

I'm just getting into the sailing world, looking at getting a Hobie 16 with my dad whose been sailing since he was tiny. We are new to sailing in Santa Cruz (I just started UCSC this past fall and having been doing the classes through then) and are looking at expanding out from the UCSC group. Are there more of these Hobie Regatta's schedualed this summer in SC or are Hobie's not raced much in SC?
Any advice would be appreciated

Cameron
