ProAngler storage trailering

Quick question:

I have a flat 4x8 plywood decked trailer which I carried 7 stored my other flat hulled kayak on, I just got some money I wasn't expecting until later in the year so, I'm about to get a Proangler in the next couple weeks ...
can it be trailered & stored on the flat trailer right side up/hull down/deck up ok?

or do i need saddles etc of some sort?

I planned to store it on trailer with seat and rods and cart stored in it so I can just up n go when I get an urge .... I considered all pros/cons of all models of Hobie Mirage drive Kayaks, as well as Native's Mariner SOT and Ultimate .... the selling point is the user moveable rudder control. If other models get those some day, I may have several Hobie models

I could get an Outback or Revo (whichever is dryer ride), pay to have rudder control moved, pay to get old rudder control hole sealed, pay to upgrade to Turbo fins, rig up some sort of rod storage, which I can do, ... yada yada yada ... but I'd rather have the user moveble rudder control.

I'd buy my niece a Sport, and my brother an Outback ... after the user moveable controls are in those models, so I can borrow theirs too lol

It look like storage & trailering on a flat surface would be great, spreading/distributing the weight across more surface area than saddles/cradles

If so. I'll pitch my old kayak off the trailer and into the dirt and run to my local dealer with the trailer next week or so.

you should be okay, Hobie does have cradles available if it looks like you need to add some later down the road.

The hull has three reinforced areas on the bottom -- bow, drivewell and stern. Just sitting on the trailer, you'll find the whole back end is without support due to hull rocker -- I think the hull weight will create flat spots amidships in short order depending on temperature and boat color (darker is hotter). If you position a block (or other firm support) under the skid pads or stern railing during storage and make sure the bow and drivewell are in contact with the trailer, that may do the job -- just keep an eye on it for awhile. Also, don't keep tight straps on the boat, especially when stored, and keep it shaded if possible to minimize internal heat buildup.

When hauling from the Texas Gulf once, I had the straps tightened down while the sun was blazing down and got some pretty large, noticable and widespread lower hull flattening and misshaping. I loosened the strps, flipped the kayak, and went on my way. Once home, I checked again, and the problem had corrected itself. Dimples and human caused defects in plastic will often correct themselves with a little hot weather and leaving them also.

I keep my kayaks in a Morton Building I had built as much as I can. When its hot, I pull the hatch covers, too, just to maintain the lowest internal temps, and to let the air circulate.

How would this all aluminum trailer do for a ProAngler or Outback?
I got a deal on a used one with spare tire and lots of extras for $475 (would be about $1,300 all together new)
Do I need different saddles etc?
My current flat trailer weighs 3 times what this one does,

you need to get some cradles for it. I have my Pro Angler on that trailer and it doesn't work right. Hobie has cradles and trailex has the cross bars you need for it.

Thanks so much, that's what I needed to know, "lucky" blessed that is the exact trailer, I was unaware of that when I found it used... In the Hobie cataloge, I found the cradle set ...

otherwise I'd be cutting 2x6 boards for cradles for the old heavy flatbed trailer.

I need some sort of cross bars too? I looked on the Trailex site and only found a kit with uprights in order to carry 2 kayaks .... didn't see cross bars.

Would Hobie dealer have those? ... Guess I'll call my Hobie dealer and find out. or aluminum stock from a hardware store or a local welder who knows how to weld aluminum? .

I just called trailex direct....
but, they said they don't know what I need and I need to get through Hobie dealer, since Hobie designed/patented them. My local Hobie dealer doesn't have the cradles or any Trailex bar in stock, so I e-mailed my local dealer asking for a price on the cradles from Hobie ..... they don't come with a bar? My local dealer doesn't carry any Trailex stuff at all, just Malone Downeaster Micro Sport Kayak Trailer Kit and Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer, and stuff for them.

I have a call into trailex to see what wen need, I have the same trailer and a Pro angler too. I just talked to them about this a couple of weeks ago. I should know more tomorrow.

The price for the Pro Angler Cradle set is $220 at my local Hobie dealer.
They dont know anything about bars.

I ordered the cradles, they weren't in stock, so being shipped, and am anxious to see if I need extra bars, meanwhile a barely used PA came up for sale it's 100 degrees outside and it's a 6 hour drive away (12 hours round trip) ......

Might end up towing it on my 5x8 flatbed, or buying one new, if I don't get the cradles soon; I hope they come with any needed bar or whatever.

sigh, I'm anxious lol

The Trailex trailer we sell is specifically designed for the Pro Angler and Adventure island and spaces the crossbars to match the required placement of the form-fitted cradles. The entire stock of trailers is kept at Trailex and shipped direct to dealers. The trailer comes with the crossbars... we don't have spares. Trailex has all of this information and material to supply you crossbars through a dealer. We can measure a trailer here if needed.

Thanks Matt, I guess I'll call Trailex again and ask for someone who actually knows something up there this time .... Or, Guess I can call the dealer to have them order the bars and hardware from Trailex so I'll have something to mount the cradles they ordered for me on.

I was going to buy NathanL's (used/16 days old) PA with the insert thingy ..... and that's a 6 hour drive each way to his place, but only an hour to the dealer from my house ...

Even simpler, I just got my Trailex trailer last week, but not from a Hobie dealer, so it didn't have bars so .... might be simpler if instead of buying even more Trailex trailer parts, maybe I'll just get a new Outback, and pay for the moving the rudder control to the right side and plastic welding the old hole closed, ... and see what else the ProAngler cradles can be used for ..... might come out cheaper that way I hope and save a 12 hour round trip drive and motel room..... and less frustration from Trailex.
