h16 covers/canvas

I am currently a college student spending my summer working at a sail loft. During slow periods I would like to start making some h16 trampoline covers. My question to you is what would you buy, a cover that is made of strong, UV resistant materials, reinforced at the corners etc, or one that is made of lower cost materials resulting in a lower selling price, but it would certainly not last as long especially in areas with extreme sun and/or weather.

Life expectancy:
High quality UV cover:10-15 years
Low cost cover: 3-5 years

I have made a sample trampoline cover of the UV resistant material, it should cost around $120.
The lower cost cover would cost around $50-$70. I am not exactly sure of the cost because I have not found the exact building materials or built a prototype.

Also, if there is any other canvas you would like to see please say so.

I am using Sunbrella on my current covers. It too has an extremely long life, we have a hammock made of the stuff that has survived 20+ Ohio summers and winters outside year round in full sunlight. Unfortunately, it is about $17 a yard. I think a top gun sample card may be in order.

I'd buy a cover that was "economically" priced... who knows if somebody will steal it off my boat... My boat is kept on a cat dock locally and locked with a steel cable to the dock. I take my sails and tiller home, but really somebody could come steal my tramp, mast, rudders, etc. right off the boat... Since it's sitting outside all summer and masted, I'd love to put something relatively cheap on the tramp to protect it a bit... and keep the goose poop off it! I'd prefer cheap and not as long lasting cause I invested in a brand new tramp that is dead sexy.. but I spent the extra cash on the Hobie branded one...

Yellow/White Prism type sails

What will keep permanent marker from washing out of canvas or cotton? I went to a concert a few days ago and got a canvas tote bag and a white cotton tee signed by the band, and I don't want the signatures to wash out. Will hand-washing them in cold water keep the permanent marker from washing out? If not, is there anything that will? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Canvas Tote Bags

I bought one off eBay two years ago and have been reasonably happy. The material looks like it's holding up well although I do not know what it's made of. The edge stitching is strong and the bungie that follows along the entire edge and snaps together at the cut out for mast step works great.

My only complaint is that the brass coated metal hardware on the diagonal straps on each corner and on the bungie corroded very quickly and they are all rusted so much they barely open and close. Seller hailed the hardware as a superior "brass" feature which is obviously bogus.

I suggest offering stainless on the high end model and plastic on the economy model.

I use the cover Hobie sells part #314-14to17. This particular cover is now in its 4th season and has held up quite well. I have had to make some minor repairs. I also keep my boat on a public beach from April thru Oct and have had no problems with people messing with it. I actually think the cover helps to keep people away from my boat as some of the other boats on the same beach have had some minor issues from people tampering with them. For the money I am happy with the cover and will buy another when the time comes.
