Replacing standing rigging

There have been a lot of threads on replacing standing rigging. This weekend I broke the main halyard on an 87 with all original hardware. I've ordered a new one plus a new jib halyard setup. I've also started thinking about replacing the rest of the rigging.
My question is how far do you go in replacing the rigging?
I know you replace all the wire (shrouds, upper & lower forestay, and bridle wires)
But do you replace:
clevis pins & or shackles
chain plates and the bolts that hold them on
the jib halyard block
bow tangs and bolts
what about trap wires

If you aren't sailing on the edge, you're taking up too much room.

I'm assuming you sail in fresh water most of the time because of your location. Salt water is much harder on the metal parts.

With that assumption:

clevis pins & or shackles - inspect and replace if obviously worn. I've never had any break on me.

chain plates - same. Especially check the weld that holds the two sides together.

and the bolts that hold them on (shroud anchor pins) - same. Replace if bent.

the jib halyard block - same. A little lube on the axle doesn't hurt (white lithium grease) if we're talking about the stock metal one that's part of the forestay. The one on the mast doesn't need any real maintenance.

bow tangs and bolts - bolts should be no problem - make sure they're tight. I've had bow tangs break on me before. Replace them and throw the old ones in the tool box as spares.

what about trap wires - do you want to go swimming? While the boat sails away from you? Replace them.

I'm guessing that your main halyard broke at the metal/rope join. Check the halyard latch (the clip on the mast) for sharp edges. File smooth as necessary.
