New to Sailing

Hi all!! I just got a 1979 H16 from a friend in school. I had gone several times with him on it, but he didn't use it much anymore since we graduated, so I bought it. I'm in the central Michigan area if anyone else is in that area.

Get that boat safety inspected:
1. Standing rigging (shrouds, bridals, anchor pins, bridal tangs, chain plates) - no broken strands, kinks, rust, cracks, or bends. Dis-masting will ruin your day.
2. Test the mast for leaks by dunking it in the lake and watching for bubbles.
3. Check for soft spots in the hulls. Press firmly on the hulls to test.
4. If the hulls have more than a cup or two of water in them after a good day sailing you may need to re-seal the pylons and rudder gudgeons or get new hull plugs with good washers.

We want you to enjoy the boat safely so you keep coming back, and your post didn't give me confidence in the soundness of the boat.

1. I'm gonna take the boat in as soon as I get a chance to to a local dealer to do this.
2. The mast is good, we checked that before I bought it.
3. The left hull has a soft spot in front of the trampoline on top. I've read this is pretty common for this year Hobie, and I already have a repair shop in mind for it.
4. The last time we were out, the left hull had a good bit of water, so we will need to do this.
