What would be the best way to repair some minor scratches on the hull? Buff them out?

I used a razor blade to skim off the high spots.
A little sand paper helps smooth em round and a plstic rod welder will fix the big ones.
Good Luck Have Fun Out there

I don't know how to repair them but I bought this tape from Bunnings the other day and plastered it at the front and rear contact points. It doesn't have to look real pretty. When it needs replacing well the role is 4 metres so it should last for ages. Looks pretty close to the AI yellow. If yours is red well I'm afraid it's gunna look like a bit of an eyesore.
Hope this helps.

I looked at bunnings, but could not find that tape, where is it?

Folks,
I have a few scratches on the side and hull of my Outback.
Regarding repairing them, I have seen on this post that a razor blade and sandpaper may be used but I have some questions.
Can anyone indicate what grit sandpaper to use??
Would automotive rubbing compound work just as well?
Does the color change when using an abrasive?
Thanks,
RickM46

Hi Rick and welcome to the forum.

A straight razor blade will take everything down flush to the hull. For scuffs I use 600 Wet/Dry, applied wet, followed by auto rubbing compound. This brings it back to a nice sheen, but not the original shine. There are smoother auto and plastic compounds that can polish it up even more if you want. For deeper scrapes you probably want to start out with more agressive paper then work it down. In any event I prefer the wet dry as it doesn't seem to clog.

There is no color change. If you want a little more gloss and richer color, try the Hobie Protectant or 303 Protectant. They dress up the boat nicely and last for a few outings. Between the two, in a side by side test I found that the Hobie product holds up a little better. Just be careful where you put it as it makes the surface slippery! 8)

Thanks Roadrunner!!
I appreciate the help and will get the razor blade and rubbing compounds and sand paper.
I just got the Hobie Protectant but have not applied it yet as I have been using Armour All (Armour All seems to dissipate after about 4 outings). I have been using WD40 to lube the drive but since finding this forum, I have switched to Break Free. I have also been beaching on sand but will stop that per this forum to keep the sand from harming the drive.

I really appreciate this forum!!!!

I live in northeast Indiana and have access to a nice set of 5 lakes that are interconnected.
I got my Outback (Caribbean Blue) about 3 weeks ago and so far it is great; getting out onto the lakes in the early AM or just before sunset is an awesome experience - peace and quiet and the lapping of the water against the hull. The mirage drive is very quiet. I would recommend the Hobie at least for its therapeutic quality. I find that the cardio workout is yet another benefit.

Thanks again!!

Which version of Break Free is recommended for the Mirage drive? CLP?

Any ideas where to buy at retail?

Justlen,
I got my Break Free at Walmart in the gun department.
It is over branded with the Winchester name
'Winchester Break Free CLP - Cleaner Lubricant Preservative'.
4oz - 3.97.

No need to cut anything(especially material you can use) or use sand paper, just invest in a Heat Gun and they will fill in and look new again.(even glassy)...watch heating in one place for to long..........Steve
