All I can say is that being an owner of 5 Hobies I couldn't be happier.

Were there some issues that needed fixing or upgrading/replacing? - absolutely!
But the amazing thing was that Hobie has taken care of every issue, and even preempted a problem or 2 by sending out free upgrades.

End result is about 5 years or endless enjoyment for my wife and I on the water in a Hobie kayak. The boat and the company that stands behind it very dependable.

I sure hope you get your issues ironed out. Occasionally a local dealer may drop the ball or is not up to speed but Hobie-corp. team are superb in putting that right.

With 2 different seat styles and multiple boats I have interchanged them and not had a problem with seats not staying put in any boat.

A suggestion (FIX) for the seat pegs. Get a rubber spacer the size of the pegs. Thread a bolt through the center with w t-nut on the bottom. When you insert the rubber peg in the hole tighten the bolt which compresses the rubber and fits tight. Just like the rubber type boat plugs, it will never slip again. i used the same design to attach eyes to the top of my cart so I can hook a bungee on them so the cart will not fall out when I lift my yak. The first time i put the seat in I over tightened the screws because I thought it would tighten the pegs in the hole.

Matt, maybe you just got a new design idea, although I doubt I was the first to think of it.

We are getting very close to a new seat peg system. We hope to have it in the 2010 models.

This is a similar idea to the expanding rubber plug, but more like the yoke of a bicycle handlebar. Two hard plastic parts are drawn together with a thumb screw. They have angled ends that force the parts to spread apart when tensioned. We had to make a mold modification after the first run of parts, so still waiting to hear about final approval on them. Crossing my fingers that I can get some by fall.

Matt,

Will those pegs only work for 2010 models or will they work for previous models too?

It is GREAT to hear that Hobie is a solution oriented company. Makes me feel great about my upcoming purchase!!!

Lisa :)

Sorry to hear of your problems.
Can't say my outbacks have been trouble free, but Hobie has stood behind every issue and upgraded my boats 3 times each. So after 5 years of service, I have like the latest versions. I realize I have been part of R&D for Hobie, but that has only benefited me.
If you have a decent retail outlet to work with, you should be in good shape.
