I'm trying to get my arms around the travelers for the main and jib on a H16. I'm guessing the traveler for the main is used to maintain a flat sail shape when reaching in a strong breeze?

Anybody have a recommendation for the default position for the jib travelers (all the way in, all the way out, somewhere in-between)?

Thanks,
Robert

The travellers on the jib adjust the slot - the space between the main and jib. Keeping the slot open and even (top to bottom) improves airflow over both sails = better handling and speed.

They have two basic positions - all the way in for upwind and all the way out for downwind.

When it's really windy, they can be moved out upwind to reduce the backpressure on the main and help keep the mast from counterrotating.

So would you move the jib traveler to the middle on a beam reach.also would you adjust the main traveler when going from windward to a reach.
