I bought a couple of those aluminum handles for the trap lines from the hobby cataloge and I want to add them a bit higher up than the stock plastic handles. (to make it easier to pull up and off the trap).

What are those "metal stops" called? are those just crimped on? can I get them at a hardware store? will they slide down? I wondered if they're crimped then soldered? In a nutshell - how do we put another handle higher on the cable.

thanks-

The "crimps" are called swedges or stop sleeves. They are compressed with a special tool (shown in the catalog on page 38). You would have to cut the wire to slide one on. Better to cut the wires and shorten I think, so the original handle is at the right height. Should be about 32" off the deck to the handle as I recall.

Thanks - shoot - didnt' know it had to be slid on. I'll stop by the hardware store and see if they have something else that might clamp on.

What is the diameter of the trap cable? I found some stainless stops that should work... but need to order proper size.

I'd highly recommend that you put that $6.40 each plus shipping toward new wires that are of proper fit. Those clamps are going to pinch, whack, slice, hang, rub, and generally annoy you......if they stay on.
