I am thinking of buying a new hiking harness...I just saw a blurb about a new rule from ISAF referenced as rule 40.2, that says all sailing competitors will have a quick release function on all hiking harnesses .....Will Hobie regattas be complying with that ruling

You can go to the bethwaithe system works really well. Also don't get hook scratches all over your boat.

I'm not aware that this rule is in effect. I believe there is also confusion as to what a "quick release" harness is. I understood the hook and ring system to be just that.

The Racing Rules of Sailing – 2009 ‘thru 2012
and how some of the changes may affect you!

<<For those using a trapeze harness, the rule that was to come into force on the 1st January 2009
about having to have a quick-release mechanism (Rule 40.2) is being deleted. This requirement is
no longer going to be mandatory, although advised.>>

Every other indication is that the hook and ring systems were compliant with this potential change. The rule was targeting "continuous" trap systems that locked you to the rig.
