Hi Eveyone,
Just purchased my new Revo and needed a stronger setup then my standard roof rack. My first priority was to make it as low of a profile as possible, due to my garage door height. I cut down 2-6 foot 1" square iron tube stock to 60" to be able to fit 2 Hobies, primed the inside and out, and rattle canned them flat black. I drilled to 7/8" holes on the top, and 1/2" holes on the bottom to allow the U Bolts to fit through. I grinded the U Bolts to sit below the bars, so I would not scratch the kayak while sliding it on top. I added pool noodles with zip ties and called in done. Now I can securely strap down two Hobies with out a problem. Lisa

I did something similar using 2 60" Thule racks in order to get a Revolution and an Outback up there. One thing I also did was picked up some rubberized pipe insulation from Home Depot and cut it to fit. It compresses nicely when tightening the straps and has some "tooth" it so it holds the kayaks very securely.

The bow and stern lines saved my bacon on the highway when I had to come to a full stop, ABS chattering away.

The bottom hole was to allow the U Bolt to go around the existing roof rack and through the bar stock. The top hole was larger to allow a socket wrench to be inserted into the bar stock to tighten the bolts down, so nothing is sticking above the bar. Hope this makes sense. :)
