It is amazingly helpful at preventing the bow from burying. Stringy has posted this photo before of him and me on a gusty day. He doesn't have a shield and look at the spray coming over his bow. That was the time I realised how helpful the shield was as I saw Stringy's bow submerge a number of times and mine didn't at all.
