I own a H16 but really want to move on to something with dagger boards and more lenght. I have had my eye out for a H18
for several months but they rarely come up for sale in my area and when they do people want a too much because of the demand the same can be said for the H17. I recently found a Nacra 5.2 in good shape and wanted to hear some thoughs on them. I already know they dont make them anymore but the same is true with H17 & H18 and I know that the Hobies have way better support and parts available. So does anyone think this 5.2 would be a step up or down for me and why?

Why not a Hobie Tiger? With the new WildCat on the market a lot of people are going to start making the switch from the tiger and you may see the used market for them open up. You can't do better than the cat that dominated the f18 class for nearly a decade.

Fellow Texan, Nacras break a lot!!! You own the toughest and most versatile cat ever built. I doubt anyone would argue this. JMHO.

The 5.2 would be a step up as would the Hobie 18. Anything you can do with an 18 can be done with a 5.2 I would think. As you already know... The difference is mostly in the available aftermarket support / parts etc.

TexKat I agree the H16 is tough as nails and once I got mine restored nothing has broken. I think you have been right next to me on Surfside 10 mile spot sorry I did not introduce myself it was a crazy day.

Matt,

Thanks for the input and I do still have my eye out for a H18 in the mean time I may be able to pick up a 5.2 pretty reasonable.

I didn't have any problems with anything breaking on my Nacra 5.2 I felt it was built quite well. I had to sell my Nacra because of divorce  , but I am hoping to buy a used Nacra 5.2 - 6.0 maybe next year. Don't get me wrong, I love my H16, and the Hobie community is the best in the world, but owning both is like having multiple sport cars to play with.

http://www.catsailor.com can also give you info on the Nacras
