One probel that I have encountered in rousing my mansail is that the sail material sewn around the bolt rope is fraying and coming loose with wear. This is loose material is getting caught in the beginning of my tracks and is undoubtedly causing undue resistance and wear on my sail. Is the a common problem? If so, is there an efficive fix out there I should try before getting creative myself?

Difficulty raising the H16 main... and most catamaran sails for that matter is mostly due to the luff curve shape. Fixing the luff rope itself can help, but hoisting technique is the key to success!

The key is feeding the sail in at the opening properly.

Here is a sail hoist FAQ that should help: http://www.hobiecat.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=371

Although I do thank you for the rapidity of your response Matt I don't feel that you really addressed my topic. I have consulted both of these resources both before posting and again after reading your post. Neither of these were of any help specifically to my situation. I will snap some pictures the next time I can (probably Saturday). This is something that I am sure has been encountered by many. I do realize that with "careful feeding" of the main I should be ably to mitigate this problem, but I am looking to both ease this task and delay the inevitable death of my sails. Also I do apologize for the gross misspellings in my previous post. It was written walking between classes and I neglected to proofread it.

Specifically asking how to repair a luff rope... not something you can do on a home sewing machine. This is something a sail loft would have to do. I suggest replacing the luff rope with one covered with Teflon threads as used in current production.

But... even a new luff rope needs to be guided into the track or it will jam. Unless your luff rope cover has gaping holes, it should still work fine if you use proper technique.
