Folding the Amas Back.

Can anyone tell me what advantage the A.I. has by pulling in the Akas & Amas? I`ve never really had a need for it with the mast up & sail furled.Or even without the mast for that matter.
I could understand the design if they retracted parallel to her body...
then you go out with extra stability and it looks symetrical/integral.

Using a dock (big reason for me, as I sail from a dock more often than not).
Exploring small backwater creeks & coves that are too far to peddle or paddle to (Need the amas extended to sail to them)
Transport, without completely breaking down the entire boat (such as when using AI cradles)
Rafting-up with other AI friends when out on the water. We usually leave the outermost amas extended, as it adds to the stability of all the boats in the raft-up.



As you noted, they are not parallel to the main hull when retracted. They do, in that position, actually create extra drag when you are in motion. But it is nice to be able to make yourself a little smaller when you want to get into a tight spot, or get up close to something.

I didnt see any other small crafts out there though and dont know why I should have been warned about them. Could never figure out the terminology :
But then I look back and this 40-50 footer made it out the inlet about a half mile back.Yay!!! I have company

So how was you cruise? Steal anything cool?

Ahhh, yes. We get "Sheep Graziers" Alerts issued by the Bureau of Meteorology from time to time. I've never seen any sheep wandering about during these times however.

One of the guys I work with recently went to Thailand for a heap of dental work. The cost was far less to go over there, have the work done and have a holiday than get it done locally. He was in pain for months before he went.

I often use the local Boat Ramp because it is easier and shorter than pulling the AI plus Gear up and down the soft-sand beach.

No matter how many trailer-boats are lining up for the Ramp there is always room to asssemble everything in the Car Park and hand-wheel the AKA-folded AI into launch position on an unused section of Ramp.

I usually launch the AI, hop in and pedal it out of the way of everybody before unfolding the AKA and unfurling the Sail.

Pirate- I have actually left the centerboard out the last several trips and let the drive do the work instead. Calling it a centerboard when its off centered is an oxymoron.
In other news...

Aledal Corp. has recinded on an earlier promise to revise our handles to a tubular shape.
Our engineers found that compromising safety for wind resistance was, in fact,unacceptable.

Our new design uses a smaller cross section of the original design offering less wind resistance while(whilst) offering a more comfortable grip. Or... (and you`ll forgive the pun)
