Sailed a few hours today. My trailer has 4 rollers. Each roller assembly has a 6 inch vertical guide post attached to the outside. These posts each have a roller covering them, but when Pulling the boat out at the end of the day, one of the rollers came off and caused some damage to a hull :( So it's time to chuck the rollers for a better set-up. I was thinking some pressure treated 2 by 6 lengths, and screwed onto that maybe a length of 3 or 4in diameter pvc cut in half lengthwise(a U track of sorts). I'd like to hear some alternative suggestions on effective, inexpensive, boat friendly, tried and true methods for trailer set-up. I sure would appreciate the benefit of your experience!

Rollers are the best solution for a 16 or a 14. The hulls are tough enough to take the point loading and the small contact area means you don't get sand / dirt collecting that can wear down your hulls as you pull it up on the trailer.

Still, rollers don't last forever and need periodic replacement if they're left in the weather. You can tell it's time when the get chalky, hard and don't roll well anymore.

I'd just replace the rollers and be done with it.

My trailer is OEM Hobie. 31years the rollers are the way to go. Great if you use a mast stepping winch, it can also winch the boat up on really steep loading ramp.

Thanks, I guess I'll just pay more attention and pay for some new rollers!
