It's so good to see Hobie has come out with some tougher wheels. I previously had the grey ballon, pvc Hobie wheels which were cut easily by barnicles on the beach. The way to mend these is to use a soldering iron on the cut and melt it back together. I found after mending them many times, the pvc just gave out. After a month of not being able to go sailing at low tide, because of the lack of wheels and not wanting to cut up the bottom of my AI, I found these replacements on the internet, and they fit in the.....the.....the same Hobie wheel holder my grey ballon wheels fit in. They have worked very well and haven't yet been cut by barnicles. If Hobie had their new wheels out at this time, I sure would have purchased my wheels from them. Below is who I contacted and how much I paid. US dollars. They may have gone up in price since then.
I've sadly put the AI away for the winter. Too cold and windy here in the PNW, for me to be out there. I'll be looking forward to reading adventures from all you warm winter sailors.
