Lots of negative replies, If the conditions are right and you take the necessary precautions, I would think it is doable. I don't speak from personal experience but a couple of guys crossed the Atlantic in an 18. If you could average about 10 to 15 knots it should take about 11 or 12 hrs, a long day for sure but depending on wind and current I think its still possible. Having said that I also think its pretty risky with out an escort. Beach cats are for ripping around close to shore and were never intended or designed for long distance sailing, a lot can happen and anything could break. On a bigger boat you have room to carry spare parts as well as lots of emergency equipment or even an inflatable tender. It sounds like a hoot but don't ask me to crew for you.

what if the wind dies?? your gonna have to sleep on the boat. in the middle of the ocean. I would mount an outboard just incase. 160 miles is a lot of open water.

Oh and replace your mast float with a huge spot light. you know your gonna be sailing in the dark. A getaway averaging 15knots.... is that even possible

jognc - I really hope you don't attempt this Hobie adventure. It sounds as though you lack experience and you have a very slow boat for the very long distances you hope to accomplish.
I believe there's a group of Hobie sailors that sail from San Pedro to Catalina during the summer. Contact them and see if they'll welcome you to come along with your Getaway. If not, see if you can crew on one of their boats. Get some experience at this shorter distance and see how they plan for this trip. Safety and Logistics!
I'm not saying this isn't do-able. I just don't think you or your Getaway are ready for an adventure like this anytime soon. It's quite an undertaking.
