I believe this website is very useful and a great place to learn about fixing little items on a Hobie you would not get anywhere else. I have a 2007 Hobie Adventure and love it. One of the things that has happened is the holes that I set the pedals in for adjusting for my leg length are wearing down. When I am moving through the water fast and have a lot of tork on the pedal, the pin has slipped out of the whole it is in. This has happened on both sides.
This is pretty alarming jolt you get while moving the legs fast and have a maximum leg pressure moving back and forth.
What can I do to fix this? Warranty item? It seems the new Mirage systems have a longer pin/peg to get all the way through the hole. When I bough the kayak new, I read through all the information that came with it since I now spend quite a bit of time on it exploring just about any body of water I can get on.
Thanks, Rick

Hi Rick and welcome to the forum. You have at least 3 good options:

1. Bolt it. That will keep your old drums going for awhile longer.

2. Reverse the drums. they are symmetrical and interchangeable. Your new #5 postiion was your old #2 position, probably untouched and like new. You can also add the bolts to prevent crankshaft flexing. You can even re-decal the drums for about a dime each.

3. Upgrade your Drive. This involves new drums and cables. Check your prices first. While you're at it, I would recommend upgrading to the V-2 sprocket and threaded mast. Both upgrades are much more durable.

Of course check out your warranty option with your dealer. If nothing else, maybe he can work with you on the upgrade parts.

Using the search function and FAQ you can find specific procedures as applicable. 8)
