Hi
I have the older Mirage Drive (2007 outfitter) in which I put some turbo fins on. Problem is I cannot seem to keep the allen adjustment screw tight enough to hold the turbo fins. They will hold for a couple of hours, but no fail one of the fins will come loose. I am really careful when assembling them, and try to make sure the mast is all the way in and screws are tight. I am wondering if the Turbo fins are just too much for the mechanism and I should upgrade to the V2 threaded sprockets. Alternative would be to put some epoxy on the allen head screws. I really feel I could not take these on a multi day trip without several repairs and bringing along a lot of spare parts (mast, fins, and screws).

Thanks,
Jill

Jill, ultimately you will want to upgrade to the V2 sprockets and masts. In the meantime, you can certainly epoxy the masts and screws in. I've had very good luck with Loctite Marine Epoxy for the masts and Loctite (red) permanent thread locker for the set screw. The marine epoxy may also be sufficient for the set screw though.

When you put the screw in, make sure it is fully seated in the sprocket. Here are a couple of views to help. If you have any problems, don't hesitate to break out the metal file and get rid of that center ridge if necessary.

The above picture shows the screw properly seated.

Since you can't look inside like this, the depth of your set screw will tell you if you're fully seated.

When done, you shouldn't have any further problems. 8)

Thanks a lot. I will try the marine epoxy and getting rid of the center ridge.

Cheers,
Jill
