Hobie Oasis fishing

I just got an Oasis and would like to have suggestion on where to put rod holders and what rod holders to use. I was thinking of putting 2 ram mounts behind the back seat, but it is slightly rounded. Does anyone have ideas and or pictures of their oasis with rod holders? Thanks

Hi dom and welcome to the forum. A friend has built a couple of platforms for his gear. He likes to troll so has rigged this rod holder for maximum split. Although this is an Adventure, it should work well on your Oasis also.




If you mount anything forward like he did, be sure you have pedal clearance and no line of sight problems.

I hope to get a Oasis as our next boat keep us posted as to how ur set-up turns out I hope to see also how some have set-up there Oasis craft.

Dom, how did you end up mounting rod holders on your Oasis? I'm in the same quandary.

You can use the Ram space saver mount (72023008) to mount any Ram rod holders to the rail of the Oasis.

The Ram space saver is thinner than the regular mount and allows you to mount accessories on the thinner parts of the kayak rail. I mounted two of them on my Revolution along with two Ram tube pivot rod holders (72023013) on the rail behind the seat which allows me to angle my rods however I wish.

Also, you need to resize those huge images into something more manageable. 3072x2304 is way too large. 800x600 or 640x480 is a good size to start with before you upload.

Thanks for all the information on this thread and others discussing the Oasis, esp. dealing with fishing. I have demo'd several types of Hobie kayaks including the Revo, Outback, Outfitter and Oasis and thought the Oasis was the best kayak for my needs. I plan to fish alone at times and with my son on other occasions and just to pedal with my wife. I've seen from a numebr Roadrunner's posts that the Oasis is a very capable kayak when solo (providing the correct weight is added to the front).

I know the Outfitter is suggested as the better pure fishing tandem boat, but both the Outback and Outfitter seemed a bit too cumbersome to me. I realize that everyone has different opinions, and thus the benefit of multiple styles and types - I liked what I perceived to be a faster and more responsive nature of the Oasis.

When I heard that Hobie was developing a Pro Angler, I thought I would wait and see it, since my primary desire for a kayak was for fishing. And while I have not demo'd one, I do not think it would be a good fit for me. My sense is that if I thought the Outback was a bit too cumbersome, then I would really struggle with the PA.

Anyways, since I do not yet own an Oasis and still trying to wrap my head around how to set one up for fishing, esp. since the Oasis has the narrower sides. I'm sure this is a silly question to anyone who owns a kayak, but I can't grasp how the RAM mount (even the space saver) would attach to the kayak. Is there a way to access the back side of the plate (through the hull) to connect the back plate and screws? Or are they attached by rivets?

Can anyone suggest a rod holder for my 2010 Oasis that has a flush mount base and then attach the holder itself after removing from the car. My wife and I do alot of paddling where I don't need or want the holders to be on the Kayak.

You should look into Scotty rod holders. They have flush mounts. I prefer the Ram mounts since the ball mounts have more tilt options but that is just a personal preference. I transport my kayaks upright so the ball mounts are not an issue. The rod holders come off leaving only the ball mount.

Thanks for your input. I ended up using the Scottys rod holders and they work great. One behind front seat to the leaft and one behind rear seat on the right. Easy to access and they don't interfere w/ paddling. What are you doing inside the storage areas to keep gear from sliding back ?

I have revolutions and inside the hatch are small eyelets installed by Hobie (which I found much later in ownership and finding out about them in a post here). They were turned inward from the hatch and out of sight guess from tightening the screws at the factory. You will also see tiny holes on the inside rim of the 8" hatch for lashing objects inside the hull. I have added two pair of padeyes with through bolts one set on each side of the mast hole giving me padeyes inside and outside the hull to clip to as well. I clip my Mirage Drive leash to one of these padeyes. Use parachute cord or some other thin nylon cord to lash anything you want at close hands reach and not slide around inside the hull. I tie off a screw top bailing bucket (serves as a dry container for keys, wallet, cell phone etc.) and keep inside the 8" hatch.



I tie off my Mirage Drive well cassette in the main hatch for quick access to it.
I have brass clips on parachute cord to attach anything I am going to carry in the hatch that I want at hands reach.
