How do you figure it was your post? I thought it belonged to Rupethereitis.

Rupethereitis started the thread. hbauguess123 posted about sailing under jib only.

I don't think this issue has anything to do with being thin-skinned or not. There are just a bunch of folks here with different levels of experience and hence, different opinions.

Based on my own experience, I think someone just learning to sail these boats is going to struggle if they try to sail under jib only. Not saying that it can't be done, it's just that there are better ways of learning to sail the boat that will allow you to get a much better sense of how it is supposed to feel and handle (such as sailing with a reefed main, sailing with main only, or simply limiting yourself to light wind days).

About five years ago, I sailed in a regatta where it was blowing around 30. We had to sail downwind, through a channel, and into a small beach surrounded by pilings and bulkheads to get back. On the way in, one of the top 16 skippers in the fleet sailed to a nearby island, dropped his mainsail, and came in under jib alone. I considered it a very smart move. So I think there are definitely times when sailing under jib alone makes good sense, just not when you're trying to learn the boat.

No one knows everything. That's one thing you get to know as you get older, you know ???? I was 57 when I bought my boat and I had no idea that this site came with it either.
