I doubt it will happen this year, but I wonder if the Tandem Island might possibly have an optional jib, or other extra sail ??

Houston,

PenquinMan (Jim Czarnowski--chief Hobie engineer) and OceanDiva (wife, Elena) are piloting a tandem AI in the Everglades Challenge which is ongoing as I write this. Jim & Elena have a jib on their tandem, HOWEVER, he emphased to me that it was strickly a prototype and NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

Fyi... the main sail is designed to attach a jib and all the hardware is designed... hull is ready to accept... just need to finalize, but the jib is getting close.

AI jib is not in the works as far as I know. The Tandem version was designed into the boat. One for an AI would be much different.

This is all a ploy to get me to upgrade to a TI, isn't it?

Matt. So am I correct in understanding that the now shipping/soon to ship TI boats will have an option for the early owners to later purchase a Jib sail option for these boats?

In other words there are not 2 versions of the TI.? or anything preventing these first boats from upgrading/adding a jib kit?

I'd almost thought the jib thing was a dead issue. Wow good news - jib is alive!

I am told that all TI's are set up for the future jib kit.

Jim Czarnowski (PenquinMan in Everglades Challenge) doing last minute packing for start of Everglades Challenge race. Note furled jib.

Elena (OceanDiva in EC) and Jim minutes from race start. Note furled jib on their tandem AI, but also note the 2nd tandem AI to left (piloted by Nick Hall, aka PelicanMan, in Ultimate Florida Challenge) does not have a jib. Jim emphasized the jib was a prototype and not available yet.

The photos of the race TIs look great.

Thanks for posting them and until the TI is at the Hobie dealer the entire system, not just the jib, is still a prototype.

Man i'm so jealous of soon to be TI owners right now! Hopefully with any luck the kibs will be a great success and Hobie will consider adding them to the AI.
