Hobie 16 North American Championships, Hobie Waves at the America’s Cup. A big month for Hobie Racers

The Hobie Wave event at the 35th America’s Cup was a big success. Twelve teams from 8 countries participated over three days of action and excitement during the America’s Cup. The sailors not only got to participate on the America’s Cup race course, they also got to race in front of the grandstand with TV being broadcast to over 150 countries. The junior sailor’s adapted exceptionally well to the different forms of racing, from traditional windward/leewards courses, to reaching starts, the same as on the America’s Cup, to reaching slalom courses.
The sailors were also entertained by the America’s Cup Authority with boat cruises and wind powered car races. Also a tour of the Red Bull Youth Camp where reigning Hobie 16 World Champion Daniel Bjornholt gave an excellent talk about what it takes to reach the top. You can learn more about the America’s Cup Endeavour Program here which we all hope will be continued for the 36th America’s Cup. Also, at least three of the teams that competed in Bermuda will be racing in Noordwijk in the Dragoon Fleet.

The Hobie Multiwords and Europeans continue to grow, with nearly 270 entries and over 100 Hobie 16 competing. We are going to have a lot of coverage on the website, so if you can’t attend you will be able to follow along on the IHCA webpages. Of course none of this would be possible without the support of great sponsors who are listed on our website. For those family and friends attending we have a lot of social activities for you to enjoy the worlds.
