Somewhere halfway the narrow road that divides the Vinkeveense Plassen into north and south lakes, there is a lodging called VVP-Verhuur. This weekend, 8-10 September, it is way more than just a lodging. 57 Anglers from 10 countries made their way to Vinkeveen to compete in the 4th Hobie Fishing European Championship powered by Lowrance & C-MAP.
The Vinkeveense Plassen, a familiar tournament Arena for Hobie, staged the 4th edition of the Hobie Fishing Worlds back in October 2014. “It is really cool to be back here. The venue is beautiful and the water is divers enough for everybody to play their own game.” Gero Priebe says. The Vinkeveense Plassen used to be a peat cutting area. The water is super clear. There are extremely deep parts, but also enough sheltered shallow areas.
The target species are going to be Pike and Perch. “In 2014, Zander was also on the target list. Unfortunately it decided not to play along and nobody showed one to the judges. That’s why decided to leave them off.” Gero explains. Anglers from all around Europe go to the Vinkeveense Plassen to catch big Pike. It’s more than a coincidence whenever a 100+ centimeter Pike is hooked.
So why do people come to the Hobie Fishing Euro’s? “This weekend I spend time with friends who all share a passion for fishing, especially from a kayak. I’m here to be a part of the Hobie family.” Edi Brader from Austria says. It’s not just the camaraderie, friendships and passion that brings people to Vinkeveen. There are some serious prizes to win. First of all, the number 1 and 2 after two days of fishing will qualify for the Hobie Fishing Worlds 7 held in Sweden next year in May.
