I can't leave work until 12:30 which doesn't get me on the water until at about 2. It takes me about 40 minutes to drive to Lanier. We typically launch at Tidwell. You should be able to find us. We will be the ones passing you!!!

Ill see ya there man! When you drive up to the guardshack at Sunrise, veer off to the right, its a gravel road.

GO SLOW. its very bumpy and un even. reeks havoc on the trailer if you dont't.

Ill be in a red nissan pathfinder!

It was nice meeting everyone. Andrew, excellent job getting your boat back up from the turtle. I've never had to do that and it is good to know the turtle technique works.
We got a real late start heading back to Tidwell. We finally pulled up to the ramp at about 8:45. The last mile was a bear. It took over an hour to make that last mile because there was hardly any wind and we had to tack back to make matters worse. Stupid me!! I didn't bring the oar because I figured there would be plenty of wind. Live and learn!!
Ive never sailed at night before and we were blessed with almost a full moon. That being said, I don't want to do that again. We had a hard time finding Tidwell in the dark because their street light keeps going out.
Experience... its the best teacher!

It was great meeting you too Eric! Also the two Stephens!

I'm not going to lie- the fact that i solo got the boat out of a turtle is pretty impressive....

To bad the weather man lied- it was 18-24 out there today!

Few things I learned....

a. dont forget to take the pin out of the mast step. There goes $20 something.
b. make sure your righting line is up to snuff. I knew that one would break, i just didnt wan't it to break today, and it did :-(
c. Soloing the boat is hard in lots of wind...at least for a "hobie" beginner. I couldnt figure out how to hold a course, adjust the main sheet, and keep the slack sheet out of the water. Not to mention hold steady and get out on a trap. Usually i have someone hold everything for me. Eventually I got it...
d. Having the right size jib sail makes your boat a lot faster
e. Foot straps in the back of the hulls makes a HUGE difference when trapping out!
f. If people say a single person can't bring a hobie out of a turtle on their own, it's BS! I really think the fact that my mast is sealed made it a whole lot easier...
g. getting tea-bagged with a crew is funny....getting tea-bagged solo is un-nerving because you loose control

Overall I had a great time with everyone! I can't wait to get out there again with a crew....i think thats the last time ill be soloing in that much wind...10-15 is fine.....18-mid 20's is another thing....

*** on a side note, i still dont understand why the boat goes turtle. The mast floats fine. Earlier in the day when i flipped, it was on its side for a good twenty minutes....the ONLY time it turtles, is when the boat goes down, I flip it back up, and it continues to flip around and splashes down the other way...then proceeds to turtle....

Next time anybody goes out on Lanier, drop me a note on billvs at cisco.com. I have a house near lanier harbor and would like to sail with other Hobie folks.

Hopefully it will be when it warms up a bit!
