Picked up some early epo rudders #3847 for a 1985 hobie 14, they are too thick to fit in the rudder castings.
How much can I sand down the epo's? or am I out of luck and need to find another pair.

thanks.

Not very much.

Better to spread the castings some (gently and gradually when they're warm - they are brittle) or find a newer set of castings.

Grind off material in the castings... do not try to pry open. Castings don't bend easily... they crack. This was typical back in "the day".

Indeed. Filing is the preferred method. Bending is unpredictable and you won't know when you're reaching the limit - until the casting breaks.
