John Eaton,
Thanks for the input. That's where I've been putting them, I just wanted to be sure.

James:

Get you a album here. Upload pics, then just copy and paste URL wherever you want to show pics, just like I did with minein above post, REAL easy:

http://www.thebeachcats.com/

Just click on the Catamaran Pictures link at left after you have done the free register. Also click on and join the Beachcars Yahoo groups link. It is an email based forum, BUT you get replys from all over the world.

Cory:

Those are the ones I have I think, BUT you may end up with 7 to 1. I see no place to start the first tie off too. May have to put a loop bracket on the top of bottom ratchet to start the reeving?

Cory,

Read what Brad with sunjammers posted. This is what comes on the new boats. And cheaper too.

H2640 upper
H194 lower

I would get those from Hobie dealer. Just make sure you get 2.25' so you won't have any block to block problems, when you relly rake it back in heavy air. You will love the carbo's.

Good Lick,

Misfit - Don't get that lower block! I did and regret it. Why? Adjusting the cam angle is a b!tch. First you must unscrew the side plates, but don't lose the itty bitty nut holding the two sides together, which means adjustments must be done over a table or floor or (keep your fingers crossed while doing it) tramp, because you don't want to lose that nut in the sand or grass or gravel. If you don't lose the nut, then you get to take off the side plates and rotate the cam to the spot you want, but make sure all 500 or so holes line up so you can put the side plates back on, and do this without losing the cam angle you want. Then you screw the whole thing back together. But if you're a set-it-and-forget-it sailor and you get it at a good price, then maybe this block will work for you.

If you get the lower block, as Hobie recommends, then cam angle adjustment is done by loosening the set screws and moving the cam to the angle you want, all while still attached to the boat and in seconds flat.

I am still curious if it is ok for me to be using the quick release shackle (refer to previous pic) on the upper block to connect to the boom bale or if it is elongating the system too much? It is convinient but I will sacrifice convinience for performance. It's difficult for me to make it out in the picture but it appears that you (Brad) are using a standard shackle with screw. Please forgive my terminology, I'm still learning all the names for the little stuff.

Brad:

I strongly disagree with your setup. Going outside and then underneath the bottom block is all wrong.  It should twist the ratchet to the side and put bad loads on it, look at the picture I posted. This is & to 1, BUT look how smooth it flow. BELIVE me it makes a lot of difference when you try to dump the sheet at A mark to fall oof.

James:

The quick release you have is fine, as long as you are not block to block when you sheet in. You should not be raked back that far. I had the old 3" block when I had 16 and had know problem. Did you ever measure your blocks to see if they were 2.25" or 3"? :?: Do you figure out the parts I said add? :?:

I like the way my blocks are run, they work for me. This boat was set up at Worlds and then again at Nationals, I think Greg Thomas sailed it in NY, I talked with him about the way the blocks are run as he likes it, I love it, allows for more mast rake and is a good conversation stater. I have not noticed it adding any pressure to the lower block while sailing.

What am I measuring to tell if my blocks are 3" or 2.25"? Do I measure the width of the blocks, or something else?

Thank you for showing me your setup. I think the 6:1 will work for me for the time being. I may have an extra block somewhere where I could try out the 7:1 setup. I'll have to wait for some warmer weather though, man I tell ya I'm getting ansy. If it means that I have to order a new block I may hold off, keep in mind I'm fresh out of college. I've got quite a list of things that I would like to purchase that are Hobie related, such as:
refiting hiking straps
a trap harness that actually fits
joining HCA
new lacing lines
new jib sheets
new carpet for side rails, the last set of carpet I got has deteriorated rather quickly, just a little over a year, even though the boat has been stored covered :?: I may go the neoprene route?.
probably new standing rigging too, I don't really know how old it is, at least over three years I would assume.
etc.

But I'm always willing to try new things, especially since I'm a newbie. I'll definately let you know what I think when I get the chance to try it on the water.
