Hello Fisherman:

I live in California near Lake Tahoe. I would like to buy a Proangler 17. My wife wants to come along and I have a 75 lb dog so I need the big boat. I want to buy the Proangler, a trailer, livewell, fish finder, some other accessories, and a motor. Basically, a complete boat. I can see the purchase pushing $10,000. As such, I would like to finance it. Anyone get decent financing for your kayak? Also, do you know a dealer in California, Nevada, or Oregon that sells both Hobie kayaks and Honda outboards. Honda has a financing program (4.99 %) but you have to buy the kayak and the motor at the same business. I would also consider other areas in the US but then I have to pay for shipping too, and that is getting expensive. Thanks for the help. David

The only hobie dealer that I know of that has financing, is the hobie dealer in lake havasu, Arizona. I just can't think of the name of the business. I hope this helps you. I want to finance a tandem island and pro angler 17 as well. I have a pro angler 14 and am totally hooked on hobie products. Southwest kayaks is the name of the company. Good luck.

Check with your local bank. They should have no issue with a trailer and treat the pro angler as a boat. You will need the MSO from Hobie and you can get it registered. Here in NY, with it being 17' it would be titled. This is usually the key for a bank and that would allow them to put a lien on it. I'm not sure you would see a 4.99% but it could make it doable.

Also, look at a credit card company. Many times they will give you a convenience check to use. It may be 0% for a limited time or like 2.9% for the life of the balance.

A few notes:

1. I bought my 17t and including all the accessories and a customized trailer, I spent about $7k. Make sure to call multiple dealers and get pricing. While they can't budge on the pricing for the Hobie, they often times give you a deal on the accessories.
2. Try out of state dealers and ask if you can pickup the kayak and accessories and save on sales tax. It will save you upwards of 9%.
3. Financing a kayak will not be in the 4.9% range. Its closer (or over) 10% because its more of a personal loan. Cars have all kinds of incentive pricing because of volume and the fact they hold their value reasonably well (and they are easy to resell and repo).
4. Check out one of my past posts for a modification I did to a jet ski trailer. Best thing I did for a 17t. Being up in Tahoe, there has to be a number of trailers you can pick up in the area, especially since jet skiis are outlawed on the lake.
5. For financing, if you have good credit consider charging it on one credit card and then use a balance transfer option for another credit card. For example, charge it on a credit card where you get 1% cash back or a bunch of miles/rewards. Then on another card that has a transfer promotion, you usually pay a 3% fee upfront and then get 0% for 12 or 15 months (depending on the card). Great way to get money cheap, especially if you have the good credit score and enough capacity on your cards.

Regarding #1 and #2, I have successfully negotiated this for my 17t so I know it can be done.

I also ordered PA17 with same reason of wanting to bring my wife. I'm also thinking of installing an outboard which is not designed for this kayak as we definitely cannot continuously pedal. But having second thought whenever I see a beautiful 15 skiff with Bimini for summer fishibg..which is light and can safely give us a wider fishing platform. so my Q is why people so crazy with PA17 including myself... hehe..The only thing I can think of is of course way lighter to transport than a 15 skiff and can let me enjoy and exercise...hmm .. does not sound right...I have a Free Gym membership at work..why include exercise to my fishing objective.. can Someone share to me their reasons why the willingnes to spend this much money. What's your justification?

Maybe you're referring to PA14. PA 17 is 5600.00 plus accessories mentioned in original post can end up between 9000 to 10000.
Anyway, my wife cannot stand the heat on summer time so I think I should drop the idea of a motored PA17. I think I already answered my Q. A real small used boat is what I need with Bimini top.

Even if you spent 10G's on it, which would include a lot of unnecessary stuff to get it that hi, if you can get a brand new skiff, rigged with more than necessary I'm very interested. I don't know, I can never find any prices on skiffs, but seriously, let me know if that is possible. I'm looking for the cheapest solution that could accommodate 2 people, but still be manageable with only 1. I really don't wanna go John boat, but other than that, are there skiffs in that price range?

I was referring to a used one. You'll find used Carolina skiff under 10,000 in craigslist.
