can someone tell me if this is a 1978 or an 1987 from the HIN? It looks like there is a sloppy 7 engraved as the last number off to the side.

I found a picture of another 87 somewhere that had the same hull stripes and with all the goodies on this boat, (Jib trim kit, Harkens, comptip, Epo's) I am thinking it could be an '87.

That was my thought from seeing the pictures and before reading your question. At least with the newer boats, there are 3 digits after the letter, first digit is year of manufacture, next 2 are model year, so manufactured in 1987 for model year 87 or 88.

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking it was either newer than '78 OR someone had done a lot of mods to it with all the newer parts it has.

I am really not sure what to do with this thing now. I tried cleaning the hulls this morning and even with EVERYTHING I have, Simple green, Barkeepers friend(Dry and wet),Tile/tub cleaner,Clorox spray cleaner, polishing compound, acetone, IPA I can NOT get much of the pond scum and staining off the boat. The hulls have a bunch of spots with bondo smeared on and the bottoms definitely need glass work.

Part of me is saying take the whole tramp frame with the jib trim, and better harken cleats and put it on my yellow boat. Or just take the trim kit and switch it over. The other half is saying Fix it! GAH what to do

I just took a good look at the hulls where I was able to sort of clean them and there are a TON of osmotic blisters. I know the previous owner kept it moored at a dock. I believe that is why the hulls are kind of beat up.

My two cents is you're on the right track here. Put that frame and newer adjustable casting steering on your yellow '82.
Before I'd spend any more time messing with the hulls do a leak test. Banging up against a dock may have compromised the hull/deck seam.

I spent some time today pulling the tramp frame off these hulls. The hulls them selves have DEFINITELY had a good amount of glass work over the years. They seem very solid no soft spots but there is one area sighting down the side that bows in ~ 1/4 ' that has fresher glass work on it.

I noticed the mast step on the front crossbar is broken where the step link pin is supposed to go through. I am thinking I will just remove the jib trim goodies from the crossbar and transfer them over to my boat. The tramp is better on my boat too so I can't really see any benefit to swapping the whole frame over.

I will be swapping the adjustable rudders and Epo's over to my boat after I refinish the epo's.

The tramp I am putting on the 16 I bought for $100. with a trailer and the only thing that will need to sail is a set of sails.

The trailer I just finished moving the rollers in to fit my 14turbo that wasn't on a trailer. YAY I can move ALL the complete boats around my yard on a trailer now to mow!

For a free boat/trailer I think I have made out well!
