Not sure it is still an issue with the current setup as the hinge is a little taller than the original, but we are not going to make changes where... if it aint actually broke, don't fix it... thinking. If the crossbar is on correctly it is a non issue.

I understand... But it's always better if something is designed to be hard to break, instead of easy to break. Sometimes there's no choice. What's the saying about "Idiot Proof"? :D

Forward.

If facing aft... the tiller will not rest on the tramp. It is suspended in air because the hinge binds on the yoke.

AND....if you switch the hiking stick over during tacking by making a quick flip with your hand very close to the yoke (between the crossbar and stick)...it will pinch the !@#$%%^ out of you. Believe me, I know.

Interestingly, my '98 H-16 (I bought in '05) has a "PORT" sticker on the crossbar....problem is it's on the wrong side. After getting pinched a time ot two, I did a little research and found that the hole should be tilted forward.

The "1953" upgrade sell like hot cakes. It is a great system and why it is standard on the boats now.

Little, if any, latteral slop. Easy to remove the crossbar.
A friend of mine has offered me a "1953" kit he didn't use (he decided to replace his rudder arms and crossbar altogether). I have a spare crossbar but it is only 75" and the instruction sheet indicates 76" cut length required. How critical do you think this dimension is? I don't want to start a project I can't finish, especially right in the middle of summer.
