Well, if you wanted to add to the fleet, I can see it. But I can not see taking the hit selling the '07 just to get the new up/down system. It's slick, but I'd have a hard time justifying the expense.

09 outback $1,750

like Dog said, not sure it's worth taking a hit for the upgrades, but if you can sell it for what you paid for it sounds like a no brainier.

Need to lighten up on ODOGFISH. He is helping the economy and spending his kids inheritance. Whats the problem with that! I was thinking of doing the same, selling the 07 Revo and 07 Sport. My Revo is red. Time to get a different color. Never did like the red but that was all the dealer had at the time.

It's not much different that buying a new car when the one you have is still good.

Ok, some have too much money and time on their hands. Got to do something with both.

ODOGFISH, go for it. As for me I am going to load up the old red Revo and go to the water.................

Sorry.. I'm a cheapskate and lousy salesman to boot. I can't take yes for an answer when it comes to selling stuff. I drive a 14 year old car. I'll think about upgrading when it dies, hits 200k miles or 20 years old. Never understood the new car every two years gig....

Now a red boat.. I can understand wanting to be rid of that.

This is an interesting twist -- a customer expresses interest in upgrading his boat and the dealers try to discourage him?

ODOGFISH, I'm with you. If I had an '07 model and could sell mine for almost as much as I invested and get a greatly improved new Mirage Drive (with better masts, drums, cables, pedal shafts) AND the new Click N Go drive insert (no more cam column worries, accidentally unscrewing the cams with my feet, etc), AND the new rudder up/down system AND a brand spanking new hull, all for a few hundred dollars more, I'd be very interested! I've tried the new Click N Go -- it locks the drive in like Fort Knox and makes the old system obsolete. I have last year's upgrades on the Drive and love its problem free operation!

And I'd be happy to sell you a new boat -- AND -- take your old one in trade if I had any to sell! But alas, I'm no dealer.

I can just hear it now.

CUSTOMER: Hi, I want to buy a new boat

DEALER: What for?

CUSTOMER: My old one's worn out. It has a hole in the hull, The rudder is broken. I've worn through the seat pad.

DEALER: That isn't a good enough reason for me. What's the matter with you son? Why waste your money on a new boat? Let me sell you a patch kit for your hull; you can use some monofilament and chewing gum to fix that rudder and just cover the seat with this old towel. Why, I've got one out in back I bought used in 1924 -- it's in primo shape, just needs a new bow. Come back and see me when you really wear your boat out. You can thank me later. By the way, be sure to stay close to shore!

Just kidding of course.

All right, RR... Come get the microphones you've placed in our store. You obviously have all the information you need.

But seriously, why? The bottom's the same. The drive works the same. The rudder still turns the same, using the same blade. The new features make it a cool boat, no doubt about it. But I figure it will cost him $400 minimum to upgrade (price delta and sales tax on the new yak).

I just don't see it. We want our customers to be happy and get the right stuff for what they want to do. But I don't think an '09 is more "right" than the '07 he already has.

But if he shows up with cash, it's his and I'll even help him load it.

I think everyone needs a new boat every year or so, I also know its not realistic. we are unloading the 2nd shipment of the 09's tomorrow so anyone who needs one we will surely load them up.

I think the Dog and I just wanted everyone to know that your not going to be "uncool" with your 07 or 08 boat. 07's in our are have been selling for around $1250, so it'd take someone $500 to upgraded, would I do it sure, I buy new iphone's when they come out, upgrade my macs and drive new cars when I can.

If anyone can get what they paid for a boat in there area it would be a very wise move to upgrade!
