Fleet 204’s madcap Madcatter Regatta sailed its 40th iteration recently. 108 Hobie® Cats made it to Syracuse, New York – making it the largest Hobie regatta in the country. HobieClass.com published an excellent news report – give it a read.

We asked Rob Jerry of sponsoring dealer Boat Works Ltd. to explain the event’s wonderful longevity. The key is keeping fleet numbers up through:

Passion: Fleet members take time out of their schedules to organize events. They get new people to try Hobie sailing, to introduce them to the fleet.

Events: The fleet hosts Come Sail With Us events. They sign people up at our boat show in February. There’s no charge, just an RSVP. We also have Newbie Tuesdays. Between them we get a few new fleet members every year.

Dealer support: As a dealer, I want to see it keep going. I do maybe more than I should to encourage and support it. We won’t guarantee the weather, and we won’t guarantee how much sailing you’ll do. We guarantee you won’t care. We have races, bands, BBQ, and a beer truck. We shoot for a good time on and off the water.
