Registration Opens for the Hobie® 2017 MultiWorlds and Europeans

The Hobie® 2017 MultiWorlds and Europeans in Noordwijk, Netherlands published the schedule of racing last month. Now they have released the online entry.

The city of Noordwijk, hosting the 2017 Hobie Multi Worlds & Europeans, is awarded the prestigious title of “European Sports city of the Year 2017.” This makes our host’s location even more attractive to attend.

2016 Hobie® 16 & 18 North American Championships Conclude

The North American Hobie 16 and 18 sailors headed to Puerto Penasco, Mexico. What a party and venue it turned out to be. While many of the days had light winds, the course was very tactical with wind and pressure changes to making it a challenge for the sailors. There are lots of photos and great drone video of the racing for those that couldn’t make it to Mexico. For those that were lucky enough to attend you can relive the fun. 2017 Americas Cup Endeavour Hobie® Wave in Bermuda

There is still opportunity to enter the America’s Cup Endeavour Junior Hobie Wave Regatta being held 20-26 June 2017, in Bermuda. There is already firm commitment from some of the Americas Cup countries. With limited number of Hobie Waves we do need you entry in soon. The racing will be on a smaller race format than the America’s Cup boats. The sailors will have an opportunity to be part of the America’s Cup scene. All sailors need to be 15 years old or younger, in 2017, the year of the event and members of the Hobie Class Association. Each Hobie Wave sailing team shall consist of two males, or two females, or a mix of one male and one female. The web site has information about The Americas Cup Endeavour program. This is a fantastic opportunity for the junior sailors to be part of one of the biggest sailing stages in the world. We ask everyone to find a junior racing team to be part of the action in Bermuda.

Hobies in the 2019 Asian Games

Over the years there has been discussion about the inclusion/exclusion of Catamarans in Olympics, Youth World Championships, Regional Games and in this case the Asian Games.

There are forces in Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF) that would drop Catamarans from the list of Classes. At Olympic level there is a chance that the Nacra 17 will be replaced with an even more expensive Cat. Read more…

IHCA Presidents October Report

It’s been a hot summer but now fall is here and the sailing season is coming to a close in the Northern Hemisphere. Soon we will have ice and cold temperatures where I live. Twice a year there is a gap between sailing season and ski season for me and at my house, it’s called “home improvement season”. We have a big bathroom project planned.

Looking back it was a good sailing season, although not as windy as we would have liked. We attended many events and enjoyed the company of Hobie sailors from around the world. Here are some highlights of our travels. Read more…

New Safety Instructions

The IHCA Rules Committee would like Race Committee to add the following in Hobie Sailing Instruction under the safety. The Standard Sailing Instruction and Class Rules reflect this update.

HELMETS
If sailors wish to wear head protection it is strongly recommend they use helmets of European standard EN1385.

From the 1st January there will be a new Racing Rules of Sailing. World Sailing (formerly ISAF) have a new app for iPhone and iPad with all the new racing rules. Versions for Android and Windows will be available in January 2017. The rules are a free download.
